The South Texas Symphonic Orchestra invites trained musicians to play with other skilled musicians simply for the love of music. All orchestra members must pass an audition and be eighteen years of age or older.
There are openings for the following instruments:
Violin 3 chairs
Viola 2 chairs
Double Bass 2 chairs
French Horn 1 chair
All members volunteer their time in rehearsals and performances in pursuit of excellence in music performance and music education.

THE AUDITION
For your audition, you will be asked to play:
1. a prepared selection from our list below, and
2. a 30-60 second piece of music of your choice that shows your range and skill. Click below in the link that corresponds to your instrument and print it off.
Judges will consider all aspects of your performance before assigning chairs.
THEN WHAT?
After all auditions have taken place, if selected, you will notified which concerts you have been selected to play. You will be given a rehearsal schedule and be asked to make a commitment to attend all rehearsals and play for all concerts assigned up to the full season if needed. You should expect to attend four to five rehearsals before each concert.
Information regarding rehearsals:
All rehearsals will be from 7:00 - 9:00 PM (15 minute break) on Monday evenings. As with any professional-level orchestra, you will be expected to have your music prepared before the first rehearsal. Most concerts are either Saturday nights or Sunday afternoons.
